Ahi Appetizer
—3/4 Pound Sashimi-Grade Tuna Steak, Small Diced
—1/2 Cup Cucumber, Small Diced
—1 Avocado, Peeled, Pitted, and Small Diced
—1/4 Cup Green Onion, Chopped
—1½ Tsps Red Pepper Flakes
—1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
—1½ Tsps Lemon Juice
—2 Tsps Sesame Oil
—1/2 Cup Soy Sauce
To Toast Sesame Seeds:
- Heat a dry skillet over medium heat.
- Add sesame seeds.
- Stir often until toasted and fragrant, about three minutes.
Preparing the Appetizer:
- In a medium bowl, combine the tuna, cucumber, avocado, green onion, red pepper flakes, and sesame seeds.
- Pour the lemon juice, sesame oil, and soy sauce into the bowl, stirring carefully to blend the ingredients but not mash the avocado.
- Place this bowl into a larger bowl filled with ice.
- Chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes only—any longer and the freshness of the fish will be lost.
- Once chilled, remove the bowl from the ice, and invert onto a serving plate. Serve with toasted bread or your favorite crackers. Alternatively, place individual portions of the blended ingredients into margarita or martini glasses and top with several crackers each.
- Serve with Hagafen Lake County or Potter Valley White Rieslings and enjoy!!
